Defend Digital Me has established this Privacy Policy to explain what information we collect through our website and how it is used, as well as protections for our supporters’ and donors’ personal information.

In this policy, “Defend Digital Me” refers to staff, Directors, cooperating lawyers, interns, and volunteers, all of whom are bound by law or contract to keep confidential information they receive as part of their assistance to us.

Defend Digital Me does not sell or rent supporter, donor or website visitor information under any circumstances, and we do not share your information without prior consent.

Information Gathered by this Site or through other means

Voluntarily Submitted Information: In addition, Defend Digital Me collects and retains information you voluntarily submit to us. It is up to you whether to submit information to us, and how much information to provide. If you choose to become a supporter, donate to Defend Digital Me or use our Contact Us or Newsletter forms, we may ask for identifying information such as your name and email address, and will retain that information.

Defend Digital Me Mailing Lists: If you choose to subscribe to our free electronic newsletter or any of our other mailing lists, we collect only your email address, but other personal data such as IP address may be gathered by Wordpress and is governed by their policy.

Other activities: Defend Digital Me may run surveys, or similar activities through this site or independent providers. Such information will be used for the purposes for which it was collected, and may also be subject to the provider third-party policies, such as Survey Monkey.

Financial information and tracking

We do not use cookies on our website.

Some of our pages may include the video services Vimeo and YouTube. Vimeo and YouTube use cookies as part of their service. They have their own privacy policy regarding tracking cookies. We also use some social media buttons to connect to those services.

We use GoCardless, Paypal and CrowdJustice accounts to manage on-line donations. Paypal allows you to close your customer account if you no longer require it but your account information may stay active with PayPal for legal and audit purposes, in accordance with PayPal’s privacy policy available here. Our Use of your Information

In general, we will only use the information provided by you to further our aims, including to protect privacy, defend children’s freedom and participation rights, and to protect your rights in the digital world.

Our site also provides links to, or interacts with, a wide variety of third-party websites, including interactive links to sites like social media, or video hosting websites. Defend Digital Me is not responsible for, and does not have any control over, the privacy practices or the content of third parties.

We encourage users to read the privacy policies of any website visited via links from or interactions with the Defend Digital Me website.

We will not disclose personal data about you to third parties without your consent.

If we are required by law to disclose the information that you have submitted, we will attempt to provide you with prior notice (unless we are prohibited or it would be futile) that a request for your information has been made in order to give you an opportunity to object to the disclosure.

Changes to Our Policies

Defend Digital Me’s Privacy Policy may change from time to time. However, any revised privacy policy will be consistent with Defend Digital Me’s mission. We will not make any substantive changes to how we use personal data, and any subscribers will be notified of any change via the newsletter prior to the change and we will post notice of changes on this page and our blog. Should the management of Defend Digital Me change, we will not transfer any personal data to any third party unless with your explicit permission obtained at the time. There are no plans to do so at this time.

Security and Retention

Although we make good faith efforts to store information collected in a secure operating environment using SSL and an option for donations via the third party Paypal system, we cannot guarantee complete security. Information collected by Defend Digital Me will be maintained for a length of time appropriate to our needs. However, we generally do not retain credit card information unless you choose to have us make automatic monthly withdrawals from your account for your donation.
