Corporate Accountability

We believe that every child has the right to a safe, open, and inclusive education, free from commercial exploitation, that enables their full and free development into adulthood and promotes human flourishing.

Intense corporate lobbying and partisan politics over time, have led to a toxic climate of edTech forced upon families and children, and exploitative data uses. This poses everyday threats to children in how they are treated and seen by adults and corporations. There is a growing existential threat to deriving public good from administrative datasets as a result of how young people feel treated as data commodities —“business as usual” is not an option.

The data ecosystem has become dominated by the imbalance of power that means people get used to create profit for businesses. The trade-off isn’t felt to be fair, and beyond our control.
